the garage center for contemporary culture has unveiled plans for a new gallery and exhibition space transformed from a derelict building in moscow, russia designed by OMA and in collaboration with local practice form bureau. dating from the 1960s, the currently unused 5,400 square meter area of the vremena goda restaurant will become the next venue for the the garage center for contemporary culture organization. the encompassing 300 acre gorky park designed by constructivist architect konstantin melkinov is also under renovation, stretching along the moskva river and connecting with the heart of the city.

the interior facilitates two levels of exhibitions as well as a creative center for children, shop, cafe, auditorium and offices. the prefabricated concrete structure along with a mosaic, decorative tiles and exposed brick elements maintain the character of the pre-soviet era. the future resident non-profit initiative intends to explore and introduce contemporary russian art into international circuits while encouraging new generations of artists to emerge with the new facility.
