located amidst an eco-farm in kunshan, china, the ‘harvest pavilion’ designed by beijing-based practice vector architects is the first completed structure within a four building complex which will include a clubhouse, botanical showroom and information center dedicated to agricultural activity. responding to the vast tracts of land encompassing the site, a horizontal roof with deep eaves parallels the flat landscape.
cantilevering from all four sides, the thin plane is formed from prefabricated aluminum rods creating a simple and light enclosure. the sheltering canopy generates an outdoor transition area to the interior. a floor-to-ceiling facade system of vertical bamboo louvers frames window panes and pivoting glass doors. the internal room becomes filters into the fields when the doors are opened.
