the morgan ‘SP1’ is the first creation of the recently formed special projects division and was commissioned to be presented at salon prive. the bespoke, coach-built car reflects every aspect of skilled craftsmanship utilized at the company over its 105 year history. as britain’s last privately owned automobile manufacturer, every creation is made as a one-off individual for its owner and showcases the mastery harnessed throughout the decades.

the vehicle’s design has improved proportions than its influence – the 2009 lifecar concept. the multi-coat paint finished body is made from aluminum that has been hand formed over a wooden ‘egg box’ construction, with the aid of an english wheel. the detailed manufacturing approach, as well as using digital design and simulation tools ensure structural and aerodynamic excellence.

under the metal there is a new suspension setup, a bespoke engine management system and custom sports exhaust that enhances the driving dynamics. the rigid steel chassis and aspirated 3.7 liter ford V6 engine also adds to the sports car’s performance. inside the car, the wooden frame is constructed using a combination of ash wood and african bubinga red hardwood to represent the client’s business life spent on that continent. the seats are kitted with natural aniline leather which matches the dual hand-stitched straps that hold the infotainment ipad system that is installed in the fascia. all aspects of the ‘SP1’ design celebrates the blend of high level craftsmanship and technology that morgan has produced over the years.
