for the renovation of a 19th century 100 sqm residence in paris, berlin’s spamroom and paris’ LEAinvent have conceived ‘apartment rue de lille’ to meet the needs of a fashion designer and african art collector. the project’s efforts were centered around creating a calm sequence of spaces with a refined layout and appropriate use of materials. the dwelling has been arranged to accommodate social events by the more public functions, including entry, kitchen, and living room, from the more private area, including bedrooms and two bathrooms. a vestibule at the plan’s center serves as a buffer between either zone.

the renovation work includes the removal of existing interior partitions, to combine smaller spaces into more open areas. the reconfiguration ensures that each room receives a courtyard window offering daylight and ventilation. it was requested that the kitchen was as inconspicuous as possible, as the client rarely cooks at home. for this reason, the space is treated as an entrance lobby centered around a monolithic marble bar, complemented by other cabinet masses of various finishes, minimal detailing, and indirect lighting.

the transformation of ‘apartment rue de lille’ results in luminous and open spaces tailored to the needs of a well traveled art collector and fashion designer. the dwelling serves as a platform to showcase pieces from her private collection, while simultaneously existing as a place to host guests and offer calm reprieve.
