brazilian firm 20.87 has just completed the ‘casa do lado’ in são paulo, brazil. the transient installation gives a new face to micasa‘s additional retail space to exhibit contemporary furniture and design. lightweight steel members attached to the existing structure secures corrugated plastic panels that wrap around the entire facade, transforming it into an orthogonal elevation with a very different character than the original. the affordable panels create the effect of translucency, hinting at the concealed form within it during the day and at night projecting the outline of the original house, effectively turning the entire component into an enormous lamp lit by energy efficient LEDs.
