japanese architect ryo yamada has conceived ‘previous landscape’, themed by the people of the community, commemorating the glory and energy that once existed in the historic industrial district. a warehouse that long served as the core of the shipping industry is utilized to display the artwork. the outer appearance of the building still remains preserved since the early 20th century, instilling a sense of energy that existed during that time. the building’s unused verandas showcase 50 human-shaped silhouettes that represent those who worked there with pride, symbolizing the vivacity during a time of prosperity within the area. the life-sized human-shaped objects consist of black nets and small airbags, where each piece is given unique look, strategically placed evenly among the balconies outside the edifice.
