belgian studio odeaubois collaborated with belgium-based ACT lighting design to produce ‘OVO’, a multi-sensory installation at switch on beijing, in china. visitors walk through a reflecting pool to approach the pavilion’s two portals, engaging with light and acoustical animations as well as a misting of water. taking on the symbolic form of an egg, the complex wooden exterior is representative of the origin of creation.

the structure rests upon a 12 meter by 8 meter platform which contains a 200 cubic meter pool. standing at 7-meters tall, the framing features a lamellar lattice secured with semicircular lozenges to distribute the tensile forces and allow the use of a poplar wood, a lighter material. scenographer marcos vinals was introduced into the project to generate a dynamic setting which culminates with an open ceiling plane to view the sky.
