the ‘one on one’ project by claudia rocha started when the photographer was searching for a new topic to do a documentary. ‘london is filled with interesting characters that pass by each other every day but nobody really connects with anybody,’ says rocha. after arriving at this observation, she decided to approach strangers on the streets, engage briefly with them and take their portrait. the artist refers to the series as a creative journey, which required her to search for a unique look evoked by individuals walking through the streets. these factors led to social barriers that needed to be overcome in order to connect with the people and capture photographs of their essence. as a result, each composition is a blend of fashion, color, and life in the city.

graffiti, architecture, and streets provide backdrops for the pictures

the project required rocha to branch out socially

before the project, the photographer believed that not enough people connect with one another

rocha was looking for people with unique looks
