‘mm house’ my CM architecture

istanbul-based CM architecture has conceived ‘mm house’, a detached building development that reinforces existing concrete slabs by separating basement and ground floors compressing the continuous surrounding foundation with load bearing walls. the new steel structure covers the roof construction with zinc titanium, where a void without structural elements is achieved within the interior space. the exposed metal arrangement has been left open at the beam and the transom level where the outer skin of the new frame retains the user’s traditional stone house of mardin from his childhood. aggregated brick provides an industrial look coherent to the new design without the regard for maintenance in the coming years.

the entrance stairs belonging to the old dwelling have been restored and the original blue tile and its worn texture have been preserved, as an interior staircase has been installed across it. the facade entry has been covered by glass invites a view of the surrounding trees from inside the house. the stairs define an axis that divides the house into two parts separating different functions, where the plan scheme references traditional turkish house typology. the basement level has been transformed into the main area of the housing development where it includes the main kitchen directly accessing the garden, a library and a working space, sanitary and storage spaces, and a guest bathroom.
