exploiting the site’s characteristics – a large plot set within a natural pine forest – dutch practice hilberink bosch architecten has built a countryside retreat that is fully integrated within its surrounding landscape. the unusual setting is defined by three primary components: a dense strip of vegetation adjacent to the passing street, a large open forested area and an offshoot of the neighboring utrecht hills, which lends the site its gradiented topography.

the dwelling’s living accommodation, including the kitchen, master bedroom, library and office are located at the lower level of the plan, guaranteeing an optimal and immersive experience of the forest. furthering the building’s intimate connection with the scenic location, an indoor pool is enclosed on three sides with large glass partition walls. a welcoming double-height entrance foyer can accommodate large artworks, or even theatrical performances, while the home is also equipped with an elevator and spiral staircase to aid circulation.
