in addition to its responsibility for the architectural, urban design and landscape coordination of the ‘macro plot A3’ of the controlled development zone (ZAC) on the banks of the seine at boulogne billancourt, paris-based patrick chavannes architecture agency has developed a building complex with 86 apartments on the same plot. one of the central principles of the urban project developed by the office for the ZAC was the creation of permeable plots which could be traversed by pedestrians moving about their daily business.

this transforms the hearts of the plots into important additional design elements within the urban landscape. plot A3 contains a total of 35,000sq meters of built space and enjoys the same functional mix found on the other macro plots: offices, retail space, social and lease-to-buy housing, housing for young workers and a play centre. the complex volume is developed at three different scales, between the avenue, the service road and the heart of the plot. all the façades are treated with white terracotta brickwork with the exception of the plastered volume which stands separately at the heart of the ensemble.
