tying in the theme for the 2012 venice biennale  of ‘common ground’, urban chat room (UCR) helps visitors celebrate a new, vital and interconnected architectural culture, addressing questions about intellectual and physical spaces both online and offline. the smart phone application developed in vienna bridges the gap between analog and virtual worlds, enhancing the experience of an area or attraction. from designated areas within venice, visitors are able to reflect and comment on different themes within the exhibition.

‘visitors’ become ‘users in that, via the UCR app, a world of digital/analog connectivity becomes visible. users will be able to see how size, function or traffic within various public spaces affects dialogue with other people. by enabling the creation of new and contemporary state in the environment by fully exploiting current technical resources, a strategy of cultural regeneration in urban space is demonstrated through communication and interaction.
