london and athens-based firm divercity architects has recently completed the ‘psychiko house’ in a low-density suburb of the capital of greece. the residence is divided into three parts, a stone base alluding to the acropolis, the upper level as an amphitheater, and the transparent interstitial living space. the vernacular of the design roots itself in a series of contrasts that create a playful environment of lights and shadows. sweeping forms play off of angular geometries mirrored by the pool, the rough exterior masonry stands out against the smooth white interior and reflective surfaces. the overlapping forms offer a variety of environments, like a sculpture on a site, with the bedrooms on the upstairs looking out over the cityscape and the social living areas on the ground floor, next to a curved room that displays the owner’s collection of vintage cars.
