the town of hasami in nagasaki prefecture of southwestern japan is known for its porcelain production from historical times. paying homage to this significance, kei harada has created an exhibition that displays 1,200 rice bowls.

each dish presents a unique color and design that exhibits the creative principles deployed by the craftsmen of the town. they are laid atop numerous box-like foundations which imitate the iconic agricultural landscape of the famous terraced rice paddies.

the aim of this installation was to combine these two icons of the town in a visual representation. each of the supporting volumes differ in size and height, making it functional for transportation and recreation in other venues.
