the ‘urbanscope’ by projecto cosimo, a studio founded by joão pestana and luis caldeira, is an iron monocle that invites you to take a different look towards a landscape’s hallmarks. these are, as pestana and caldeira put it, ‘icons that talk about the soul of the city.’

the urbanscope within a site
a circular section tube makes you focus on a specific point, revealing its location in relation to the position you occupy. in addition, buildings, squares, statues, trees, and topographical features act as referral points and help intensify the sense of place. a typographical element in the form of informational text is printed on the vertical stand to elaborate upon what is being observed.

the project asserts itself as relevant spatial information within the dimensions of a signpost. the rigorous simplicity of the object, avoiding the use of technological accessories and more complex construction, ensures the easiness of its production, usage, maintenance and integration into any context.
