eva chou‘s R shell chair is formed by two warped surfaces leaning against one another. taking the shell construction engineering method as reference, chou has devised a way in which they can support each other.

detail of the chair
the project strikes balance between the point and the line, and the virtual and the physical. one of the surfaces is constructed with multi-lines of red to represent the wireframe mesh of a computer-generated model. meanwhile, a notch and a bulged up rib corresponds on the other surface of foam. the result the undulation is an overlapping of shadows that change depending on the location of the light source.
