ole sondresen converts 19th century farmhouse in long island

renovated from a 19th century farmhouse, this residence sits near the shore of long island’s gold coast where ole sondresen has transformed the large plot into a light-filled family residence home. situated in a leafy suburban neighborhood, the main addition of ‘sands point house’ involves a timber and glass form which cantilevers above a stone wall. simultaneously, a new terraced garden wraps around the extension connecting the lower and upper yard.

equipped with a private pool, overlooked by screened-in porch, the building’s sloped roof is supported by douglas fir glu-lam posts. the use of timber has been continued internally and seen in the ceiling beams to the frames of the doors and interior detailing. featured in the large living and dining areas is a bold custom board-formed fireplace made of concrete, which acts as a subtle screen between the two spaces. brick and ceiling elements from the original farmhouse have been kept and exposed in the now TV room- adding to the wide range of spacious areas within the home, all of which blends contemporary with country décor and instilling a comfortable ambience.
