located three kilometers west of munich’s central station is the massive concrete form of what was once the parcel post hall. self-supported, the dome is composed of 1,600 intricately connected pre-fab parts. in total, the structure is 146 meters wide, 30 meters at its tallest point, and 124 meters in length. the mass of concrete could prove to be the opportune concert hall location the people of munich have been looking for. to visualize the possibilities design agency KMS blackspace, in collaboration with architects joachim jürke and andrea gebhard and funding by mathias niemeir, created ‘die resonanz’.

the conceived concept adapts the former post building into a central gathering place for concert goers and the public alike. according to plans, the impressive warehouse can host a main auditorium with 1,900 seats, as well as several smaller halls. in addition, the site would have cafés, restaurants, and room for cultural events and exhibitions, as well as generous space for general public use. currently, ‘die resonanz’ is awaiting approval by the bavarian state parliament.
