processo arquivado exhibition discusses contemporary design in brazil

brazilian designers antonia almeida and fabio esteves from 80e8 teamed up with paulo goldstein to create the first edition of ‘processo arquivado’ (case filed), an exhibition that refutes design’s commonplaces and on the contrary, relies on tests and unusual results to propose new methods. the aim of the show is to stop the perception of design as a simple product that is part of a consumption equation but rather emphasize on it as a connection between research, ideas, and experiences that are constantly evolving. the resulting mysterious objects promote the discussion of contemporary production to indicate that the current pieces are not groundless, but that they come from the desires and issues for which the designer does not always find a clear answer.

the pieces go against the market and criticizes the frantic demand and notion of instant creation. the unfinished processes make up the main theme that illustrates the concept of the exhibition, not only from the perspective of the designer but also for the assisting public who lives in a functional universe.

the show references the ‘beyond the new’ manifesto, written by louise schouwenber and hella jongerius that says, ‘good design involves research. we owe it to the field to reflect on our own practice, again and again, and to investigate all components again and again. design requires a constant search for new languages, a battle assumptions and limitations, the continuous refinement of answers to fundamental questions.’
