‘HOME(less)’ is a collaborative project by los angeles based architect and designer sofia borges and her partner susan nwankpa of colorblock. the series is part of an exhibition hosted by the USC school of architecture that highlights the emergency-status homeless situation currently ongoing in LA, california.

the duo’s work features photographs shot over a single weekend in january of this year. many were taken on wilshire boulevard, a street that connects the eastern and western sides of the city. once a range of photographs were taken, various architectural typologies — ranging from A-frames to mid-century modernist homes — were overlaid.

HOME(less)’ is an optimistic suggestion that contrasts imaginary structures with the harsh realities of life on the streets. viewed in their raw state, they emphasize challenges and opportunities inherent in designing for the largely underrepresented and ever growing population. ‘HOME(less)’ is dedicated to the memory of daren borges (1972 – 2014).
