‘baan rai thaw si’ house in thailand has been built around one singular native tree, which holds its place in the centre of the courtyard. the tree acts a stunning centre piece, positioned perfectly to absorb rays of sun. the shape of the building follows this environmental theme, with a roof that mirrors the dynamic mountain line of the surrounding landscape. there is also a reflection pond below that creates a sense of space and tranquility.

the owner, ms. piyaporn taepaisitphong wanted to build a weekend house for her extended family, meditation groups and gatherings with friends and relatives, which could be adjusted into a permanent house in the future. the temporary nature of the structure works in accordance to nature, in its design and in its functional properties – it contains a natural system for wastewater treatment and is self sufficient in its water supply.
