the DIA design intelligence award and competition – last call for submissions
the design intelligence award [DIA] is an industrial design competition that was established in zhejiang province in 2015. this award is hosted by the china academy of art and supported by zhejiang provincial government, which is open to design organizations, enterprises, research institutes, designers and students across the globe, seeking industrial design projects that are produced with creativity, and possess a breakthrough and revolutionary spirit. it aims to promote the transformation and developments of the manufacturing industry in zhejiang province, strengthening china’s design industry, and elevating its position on the global design stage.

1. award evaluation system
the process of the DIA competition includes preliminary evaluation and final evaluation. for the phase of preliminary evaluation, the entries are accepted either by public registration or expert nomination. reviewed and approved by the DIA committee, the nominated works can go straight into the phase of final evaluation. the nomination experts and the evaluation experts will work independently.

2. award system
all the works submitted to the competition will either pass a preliminary assessment, or be nominated by experts to qualify for the final evaluation. the final committee will choose 100 works to be awarded ‘the design intelligence award’s top 100 award’ (DIA top 100), among which, especially excellent works, will be awarded ‘the top gold award”‘(DIA gold), ‘the excellence intelligence award'(DIA excellence) and ‘the innovation intelligence award’ (DIA innovation).
DIA gold (2 prizes, 1,000,000rmb/prize): awarded annually to those DIA recipients whose works are of exceptional excellence, possessing comprehensive innovative design power. recipients should be individuals or design teams already holding strong public influence and being able to bring positive influence on human life, industry and regional development.
DIA excellence (10 prizes, 200,000rmb/prize): awarded annually to those DIA recipients whose works possess ground-breaking innovative modes of design.
DIA innovation (10 prizes, 100,000rmb/prize): awarded annually to those DIA recipients whose works hold great innovative potential for development. recipients should be small/ medium-sized firms with excellent research and far-reaching ambitions, providing a unique contribution to regional economic development.
DIA top 100 (100 prizes): awarded annually to those DIA recipients whose works meet the standards of evaluation and present good design ideas.

3. qualifications and requirements for participants
works that are already on the market, or works that can be completed by the end of the april in 2016 and be displayed in the award ceremony of DIA and other public design exhibitions will be accepted. any design organization, enterprise, research institute designer and student from any country in the world can register for the competition.

participants can enter their work through the official website of the DI award: www.di-award.org; click ‘enter to registration system’; and then fill in the relevant information for registration.

note: if the dates above vary, they will be published on the ‘news center’ column on the DIA official website. all the participants should pay close attention to the updates on the official website.

8. online registration explanation
1. there is no limit to the number of entries a participant submits, but each entry can only be submitted once for this award.
2. to register online successfully, please use ie9, chrome, firefox or safari browser. participants should strictly follow the registration requirements and fill in all the relevant information.
3. all participants should upload no more than six pictures of their project, including main visuals, contextual photos, orthographic drawings, and renderings. the images shall be in RGB color format and .jpg image format. the picture size should be a4 within 3m picture. the picture accuracy shall be 300dpi. in order to ensure the fairness of this competition, the company, name (include english name or abbreviation of its spelling), graphs and logos or any personal information of the participant SHOULD NOT appear on the entries.
note: all the pictures must be uploaded for evaluation, exhibition and printing. participants’ scores will be effected if the pictures are not uploaded (not uploading pictures is regarded as failing to meet the requirements). in addition to images, competitors can also provide entry videos, which could become a subsidiary basis of evaluation for the jury. video links: keep your video links valid until the end of the DIA competition. the videos can be submitted with chinese and english subtitles, and the time length should be no longer than 60 seconds.
4. the certificates and yearbook of the 2016 DIA will present design organizations or designers’ personal information, but submitters’ name will not appear on them. if the awarded works participate in the industrial transformation of the DIA, the yearbook will reflect information about the transformation supporting platforms. the participants should fill in all the information honestly and completely, which will be the final proof for awarded works.
5. please pay attention to correctness and accuracy of spelling and translation. after filling out your information and uploading pictures, please click the submit’ button to ensure the correctness of the uploaded information without any changes, otherwise your works will not be able to be reviewed.

9. attention
1. the competitor shall fill in his contact information including e-mail and address when registering on the DIA official website, and shall keep in touch for important announcements and award information.
2. the competitor shall remember his account and password, and the competitor shall assume the liability for missing the registration deadline in the case that he / she forgets their password.
3. the competitor shall log onto the DIA official site to check his on-line registration status immediately after the submission of the registration information has been completed and is online.
4. please contact the DIA committee if the entry works require any confidentiality.

10. legal statement
1 about entry work
(1) the competitor shall take responsibility for intellectual property rights, image rights, and all other legal aspects of his entry work. all the competitors shall state that their entry works do not infringe on any third party’s rights, otherwise his qualification for this competition will be revoked. if works are evaluated as plagiarism, infringement or being reported against by any third party, the awardees’ standings will immediately be revoked, and the committee will recall all award certificates, trophies and honors etc., as well as the related information on relevant media sites. if any economic and reputation losses are caused by the works having defects regarding intellectual property, the host and the organizers shall have the right to demand compensation from the competitors.
(2) the actual number of prizes will depend on the quality of the entries. therefore there are chances that some prizes will remain vacant. in case of disputes over the result of the competition, the decision of the DIA jury shall be final.
(3) the DIA committee workers do not qualify for the competition. the judges and the volunteers who only participate in a part of DIA work shall be qualified for the competition, but are not allowed to use the above identities to affect the award evaluation for improper interest.
(4) the DIA committee, the associated cooperative enterprises and media partners have the right to use the entry works of competitors for non-commercial purpose such as promotion, exhibitions, on-line display and brochure designs. there shall be no payment to the competitors for the above non-commercial purposes.
(5) the DIA committee reserves the right of final interpretation for this event to the full extent permitted by law.
2 about awarded works
for all the awarded works, the individual income tax of the monetary prize shall be paid by the competitors themselves.
(1) the copyright of awarded works shall belong to the competitors. the DIA committee, cooperative enterprises and media partners have the right to exhibit and spread the related work information.
(2) for the entry works selected for industrial transformation service, the copyright of the entry works shall be negotiated by the competitors, the manufacturing enterprise and the DIA committee.

11. disqualification
the DIA committee has the right to revoke the awardee’s standings and awards due to any of the following circumstances:
1. the entry work has serious design defects, which leads to social harm.
2. the entry work is evaluated as having defects regarding intellectual property.
3. the entry work fails to meet current regulations. for example, the listing date of entry work fails to meet the requirements of the 2016 DIA.
4. the competitor makes alterations to his award-winning works and continues to use the DIA logo for commercial promotion without having informed the DIA committee.
5. the competitor engages in improper use of the DIA logo in a severe circumstance, or refuses to correct it.
6. the competitor behaves in a way that causes a loss of reputation DAI.

12. disclaimer
1. the competitor shall ensure the correctness and truthfulness of his registration information before submitting. the competitor shall assume the liability of the consequences due to any incorrect information that is submitted.
