for more than ten years, artist JR has chosen the public space to showcase his monumental photographic collages and creative urban interventions. whether it be the middle east, the favelas of rio, slums of kenya, new york, le havre or shanghai, the french creative’s works have appeared on walls in cities around the world.
this spring, JR has been invited by the musée du louvre to transform one of the most recognizable aspects of the world-renowned museum into a monumental optical illusion.

the installaiton has been competed for its official unveil on may 25, 2016

the iconic I.M. pei-designed pyramid at musée du louvre has been made into a surprising anamorphic image, as paper sheets cover the entirety of the landmark’s tiled glass facade. printed on the paper is a huge-scale black and white image of the louvre’s historic palace building — when viewed from a certain vantage point, the collage perfectly aligns to the architectural backdrop and completely conceals the glass pyramid from view.
the installation remains on view from now until june 27, 2016. see images of the work-in-progress below.
