the studio has realized a dynamic and community-engaging structure adjacent to the V&A museum of childhood that takes cues from this year's theme of 'energy'.

the triumph pavilion installation is an annual showcase that seeks to encourage architectural experimentation and exploration. as part of this year’s london festival of architecture, local-studio five line projects has realized a dynamic and community-engaging structure at london‘s museum gardens in bethnal green — adjacent to the V&A museum of childhood — that takes cues from this year’s theme of ‘energy’.
‘energy pavilion (pinwheel)’ is a self-supporting structure built from bamboo, stainless steel rods, timber and polished aluminum. supported by solid steel brackets and structured ground anchors, the entire pavilion weighs about 9 tonnes and spans nearly three meters high across a 64 square meter area.

referencing the classic children’s toy — the pinwheel — this year’s pavilion comprises a catalogue of mills supported by a forest of pillars. engineered by ARUP, each wheel has been systematically aligned to others on the rod. as visitors spin a single piece, it triggers the movement of the adjacent wheel. five line projects intends this action to serve as a metaphor for the ability to positively influence the wider community — the activity of one person can trigger a chain reaction that affects a great number of people. the project is also based on the idea that london’s achievements, and that of other global cities, is driven by the force of those that inhabit it.
architects, designers, families and the general public are invited to stand, walk-through or sit around the pavilion, engaging with each other or simply relaxing within the setting and space.
