LDF london design festival 2016: raw color present playful experiments at aram gallery
the exhibition will feature 'chromatology' - an installation based on paper shredders, each connected with a motion sensor and fed by coloured paper rolls.

during LDF london design festival 2016, raw color studio will exhibit a number of playful works under the name ‘blend’. the eindhoven-based interdisciplinary studio will present a range of products, experiments and installations that relate to its research in color. the title of their solo show — presented at the aram gallery in london — refers to the various media across which the studio works: photography, textile, interactive and print.

‘chromatology’ (2015)
‘chromatology’ (2015) is an installation based on paper shredders, each connected with a motion sensor and fed by coloured paper rolls. the machines are triggered by the pure presence of the viewer in front of it allowing to activate each machine separately creating a vibrant mix of falling paper rain. the concept references artist vincent van gogh’s practice and methodology towards painting, introducing an alternative and contemporary slant towards color mixing.

‘index’ (2012) looks at the technique of weaving, using three different color series to produce a collection of tea towels and blankets. each textile follows the same process from monotone, through duotone, to multitone, with the first shade taking the lead and a new tone will be added in the following step. these experiments have been translated into vertical panels, allowing the viewer to appreciate the different color combinations, that change depending on the compositional arrangements of the fabrics during the exhibition.

‘index’ (2012)
the last installation by raw color is a series of fans, which explore how color can be blended by motion. the installation uses this electronic tool to choreograph an interactive installation, revealing the transformative quality of these two combined elements.
‘BLEND’ is made possible by creative industries fund NL, and will take place at the aram gallery during the LDF london design festival 2016 from september 19th to october 29, 2016.
