come to my place
at: westerhuis gallery, amsterdam
from: september 18 – november 2, 2008
amongst the exhibitions being held at experimentadesign amsterdam 2008 is ‘come to my place’ in which eight
international designers were each given an empty cell. their brief? to make this space into a place –
make it feel like home. the designers were asked to collect half of the items they are going to use from local
building markets and hardware stores, taking advantage of the beauty of the banal in designing their
personal spaces. the objects collected include sockets, door handles and lighting fixtures which reflect the
common aesthetic that usually adorns the home and give a sense of place and the local cultures which are
represented by each participant. ‘come to my place’ is an exercise in looking at our needs as a society
and how we arrange the public and private environments of our lives not only to fulfill our basic needs,
but to also act as a representation of who we are as cultural beings.

participants include: folkform, maxim velcovsky, meriç kara, miguel vieira baptista, design MVW, polka, tobias wong and aric chen.
