oddityviz pays tribute to david bowie with data-visualizing records
the project combines data and design in an attempt to visualize bowie's iconic 'space oddity' and explores how musical narratives can lead to various interpretations.

designer valentina d’efilippo and researcher miriam quick have created an unusual set of records as a tribute to david bowie’s work. the collaboration, known as oddityviz, is a data-visualization project that investigates the singer’s timeless ‘space oddity’ in a series of ten custom engraved records with accompanying large-scale art prints and projected moving images.

oddityviz includes a series of 10 specially engraved records
through valentina d’efilippo and miriam quick‘s oddityviz, data and design come together in an attempt to visualize the song’s grammar and explore how musical narratives can lead to various interpretations. in other words, the installation aims at starting a different conversation about bowie’s iconic track and influencing viewers to acknowledge his legacy as well as revisit his music anew.
oddityviz is exhibited from the 10th to 23rd of January 2017 in wieden+kennedy window space on hanbury street, london, marking the first trip around the sun since bowie’s passing!
