barcelona-based lúcid design agency develops ‘citysens’, a customizable and self-watering indoor vertical garden to comfortably enjoy at home or at the office. the project stems from a realization about the gap between nature and urban lifestyle. nowadays, more than 50% of the world population live in cities, with smaller houses and less time to enjoy the outdoors. hence, this vertical garden adds a touch of green freshness to any indoor space.
citysens is conceived as a domestic vertical garden
lúcid design agency has created citysens as a hydroponic system, meaning it grows in a soilless medium; as a substitute, the vertical garden is fed via a nutrient-based solution (rich in minerals). furthermore the product can be easily mounted in two minutes, during which the vertical self-watering system is connected. with this pragmatic approach, users are free to grow a wide variety of plants — from orchids to aromatic herbs
its playful design allows it to be displayed almost anywhere in a house
in terms of self-watering, an irrigation program has been installed for it be controlled via an application on one’s smart phone. simply by using the proposed wifi timer, citysens can be activated to water the plants for more than 31 days by itself. as one can imagine, this takes a great load off the user’s shoulders who can go about their errands without worry or dread of forgetting. currently, citysens parts are mounted and packed in a work center for people with special needs in tarragona, spain. by doing so, the team hopes to achieve a positive social and environmental impact through their product.
