unique campsite concept celebrates 4 years of designers on holiday

what better way to keep in touch with your creativity than with a holiday – that’s the founding idea behind the unique campsite concept, ‘designers on holiday’, inviting individuals to experiment with different ways of living.

founded in 2014 by tom gottelier and bobby petersen, designers on holiday challenges creatives to build a self-sustainable campsite (which in true scandinavian fashion is extremely pleasing to look at too). the designers on holiday campsite is located in 15 acres of swedish gotlandic countryside featuring a mixture of limestone bedrock and dense juniper bushes.

over the past 4 years designers from different disciplines and countries have built a wide array of essential amenities, including a wood fired bread oven, a one man sauna, a ten man sauna, a terracotta kiln, a pink hot-tub, a loom, a waxed cotton sailing boat, a herbal distillery – the list goes on. whilst these structures remain at base, adventurers do return home with a souvenir – the aim is that holiday-makers will teach one another tricks of their trade and obtain a new set of nature-sympathetic skills.
