as a land artist strijdom wan der merwe generally uses the materials found on a chosen site. these sculptural forms take shape in relation to the landscape. using his pocket knife to scratch away a thin layer of moss on the bark of the trees, the artist created a very unique installation in kamiyama, japan.

wan der merwe‘s process is based on working with the natural environment. by using what is found on site and then shaping these elements into geometrical forms until it gradually integrates with the natural environment again.
