british designer michael young has recently designed ‘pissarro’, the interior of a new contemporary french restaurant named after the famous french artist, located in the city centre of hong kong. with his design he explored various handcraft and industrial processes from factories in china to create a warm environment in the restaurant. together with leading engineers he produced CNC panels of aluminum each with different designs embedded into them using a paper folding technique. in homage to pissaro, young abstracted his work digitally and created each panel that contains 26, 400 pieces of paper. each of the glass lights were made in a small village workshop, blown by himself.
