a temporary gallery has been installed within a mall in lisbon, encouraging visitors to take a break from shopping and take in some unexpected artwork. in developing the design, diogo aguiar studio teamed up with joão jesus arquitectos to create a large white volume within the commercial setting. built from paired styrofoam blocks, the structure sits on a blue carpet inside the city’s colombo centre.

the structure, designed by diogo aguiar studio and joão jesus arquitectos, contains an exhibtion showcasing the work of paula rego — a portuguese visual artist known for her paintings and prints based on storybooks. three entrances, oriented in different directions, give access to three different rooms of varying dimensions and proportions. these volumes direct the visitor to the central space where the main work of the exhibition, ‘blue fairy’, is found.
