prefer designboom on googlegerman graffitist and painter guido zimmermann redesigns the classic cuckoo clocks with a modern approach of famous architects and their iconic buildings. titled ‘cuckoo blocks’, the series features replicas of the architectural monuments designed by important creators, such as marcel breuer and ernő goldfinger.

with this work, zimmermann wants to face the harsh reality of brutalist concrete architecture instead of enjoying the view of a dreamy rustic country house in which the cuckoo usually hides. ‘the classic cuckoo clock is a symbol of prosperity in the middle class and is considered a child of luxury for the home,’ says the designer’s website. ‘the updated version, a prefabricated panel construction, reveals today’s urban and social life in residential blocks.’
the artist has extended his collection with birdhouses for songbirds using a sicilian social housing building as the prototype.
