studio dafi reis-doron reveals ‘evil eye’ mirror inspired by ancient symbolism
studio dafi reis-doron has designed a new 'evil eye' wall mounted mirror to offer a place for viewers to look within themselves.
since ancient times, objects to protect against the ‘evil eye’ have existed in many different cultures and religions as a means of protection against malevolent forces and misfortune. inspired by these iconic symbols, studio dafi reis-doron has harnessed the concept of the ‘evil eye’ to design a new wall mounted mirror that invites viewers to look into the mirror and into themselves.

the design arises from the designer‘s childhood memories of wandering around the local flea market in jaffa, seeing glimpses of the many evil eye ornaments decorated in vivid colours of aquamarine and cobalt. the mirror, made from blown glass, is designed using this typical blue color which has become synonymous with the evil eye symbolism. when viewers peer inside the mirror, an endless tunnel of reflection is revealed, where nothing obstructs the gaze of the viewer.

in the modern world, the image of the evil eye has been reduced to mere superstition and decoration. the concept of the design by studio dafi reis-doron does not intend to signify a belief in evil, but to provide an object that reminds people of the power of self examination. in times when we are bombarded by social media we often forget to look within, the ‘evil eye’ aims to offer viewers a feeling of introspection and an important reminder to look within themselves.
