los angeles’ MGA entertainment has sued louis vuitton, claiming that their $59.99 USD ‘pooey puitton’ purse does not resemble the fashion house’s takashi murakami handbags. the plastic product at the center of the case has apparently surprised customers with its similarity to LVMH’s iconic bag’s colors and their name in general. this is clearly untrue according to the lawsuit, with the maker stating that there has not been an infringement on intellectual-property rights and should be protected as parody.

according to MGA’s complaint, ‘on or around december 7, 2018, louis vuitton claimed to one of MGA’s customers that the pooey name and pooey product infringed upon or diluted one or more of louis vuitton trademarks‘. anticpating a lawsuit from one of the world’s most valuable luxury goods brands, the toymaker filed to a federal court first. it continues to state that no reasonable consumer would mistake the pooey product for a louis vuitton handbag‘.  the plastic poop-shaped product carries sweets and other smaller toys inside, highlighting many differences in use, customer, marketing, materials and price in comparison to LVMH.
