designer's own words:

This dinnerware set is inspired by the decline of table manners in America. Many Americans use only one utensil while eating. To remedy this, and similar problems, the KnifePlate has a ridge that aids in scooping and the SpoonBowl has a divot that facilitates pasta twirling.
