yosuke matsushita pours resin into melamine foam to create completely unique furniture
the 'mould' project creates an actual user experience, in contrary to uniform products that are generated for the masses.
prefer designboom on googlejapanese designer, yosuke matsushita, presents his latest project entitled ‘mould’ that creates objects such as tables and chairs from resin and melamine foam. the project has been conceived in an effort to enhance the emotional bond between people and objects by creating an actual user experience. the concept departs from current day products which are inevitably generated for the masses, resulting in a uniformity that fails to foster a unique connection with our belongings and surroundings.

expanding upon this concept, matsushita has undertaken a series of physical research of materials in an attempt to find an intriguing method to build meaningful relationships between humans and our physical products. the project begins with a mould made from melamine foam. 10mm wide holes have then been penetrated into the melamine form, and resin poured into it. the resin trickles and permeates through the foam, with natural gravity giving the resin a unique shape. after pouring the resin, users can dig through the foam to unearth the shaped resin, discovering the organically shaped furniture.

the resin can also be poured from multiple directions to make two objects such as a table and chair from one melamine foam. objects are covered by melamine foam so there is no need to use excess materials as packaging to ship to their end-location. upon delivery, users can delve through the melamine foam, and meet their new one of a kind resin product.
