philippe starck: masters chair for kartell
philippe starck‘s ‘masters’ chair for kartell draws its form by layering the shapes of classic chairs by three design masters.the outlines of the ‘7 series’ by arne jacobsen, ‘eiffel chair’ by charles eames and ‘tulip armchair’ by eero saarinen are rendered in three dimensions to form the supporting back of the seat. made from modified batch-dyed polypropylene, each one measures W x 22.4″ H x 33″ D x 18.5″, with a seat height of 19″.
‘we weren’t born just today. there have been masters before us. the masters chair brings to mind the lines of three great masters and three great masterpieces. putting them all together they create a new product, a new project, a reflection on a new society. ‘masters’ is a project in collaboration with eugeni quitlet.’ – philippe starck
