taiwanese electric vehicle company gogoro has revealed its latest vehicle, a lightweight e-scooter called viva. as well as being electric, the viva uses recyclable polypropylene plastic in an effort to be greener.

the viva relies on gogoro‘s gostations to swap out discharged batteries for fresh packs, an infrastructure it hopes will enable riders to spend more time on the roads rather than at charging stations. the company currently has a network of over 1,400 gostation chargers in its homebase of taipei but plans to expand soon to the rest of the world.

the viva was created as an environmentally-friendly alternative to 50cc to 100cc gas scooters. it’s smaller than the gogoro 2 and 3 model and has only one swappable battery pack. on a full charge it can run for a shorter range of 85 kilometers as a result. it weighs 80 kilograms and has up to 21 liters of storage.

in addition to being electric, the viva uses recyclable scratch-proof solid-core polypropylene. like the company’s other models, the viva is connected to the company’s IQ system, which lets users unlock their vehicles and monitor mileage and maintenance via a smartphone app.

the viva will be available starting in october, launching in taiwan first before rolling out to other regions internationally in 2020. it will retail at $1,800 USD and customers can choose from five color combinations, with about 100 optional accessories including baskets and racks available.
