art villa resort in costa rica includes hillside dwelling with concrete swimming pool
inspired by the work of paulo mendes da rocha, the project comprises raw concrete walls that contrast the lush landscape.
this concrete dwelling forms part of a luxury resort in the jungle of costa rica. the ‘art villa’ joins the ‘atelier villa’, which was previously featured on designboom here. designed by czech firms refuel works and formafatal, the project features an infinity pool that hovers above the terrain offering sweeping views out to sea. the residence contains five bedrooms, open plan living accommodation, and a fitness room.

refuel works developed the architectural concept behind the ‘art villa’ with formafatal brought in by the client to focus on the building’s interior design and external finishes. inspired by the work of brazilian architect paulo mendes da rocha, the project comprises raw concrete walls that contrast the lush landscape as well as the warmer materials used internally. a hand-painted watercolor jungle motif is found in the kitchen, while the bedrooms and bathrooms feature custom-made tiled floors.

as with the site’s ‘atelier villa’, the majority of the scheme’s furniture has been custom-made by local craftsmen or manufactured in the czech republic and then brought to the site. the custom pieces are complemented with several armchairs designed by south american designers and architects. overlooking the beach of playa hermosa, the art villas resort offers luxury accommodation immersed in the costa rican jungle. more details can be found on the official website.
