athens-based architecture practice, r.c. tech, has completed ‘beach house neratza,’ a white monolithic residence located by the coastline of northern peloponnese, greece. the single-story dwelling benefits from a series of exterior spaces with different spatial qualities, including a central outdoor living space, a beachfront terrace with a pool, and a secluded courtyard that provides privacy and a sense of sanctuary. an elegant skeleton of concrete pergolas wraps around the main volume of the house, framing views of the surrounding landscape.all images by athina souli

r.c. tech’s ‘beach house neratza’ sits on a flat plot right next to the sea, which overlooks the mountain of parnassos to the north. ‘apart from the view, there are no apparent topological features or relatable surrounding buildings that formulate a strong local context,’ explains the greek studio. as such, the residence itself becomes the context, providing a series of diverse architectural sceneries for its inhabitants to make memories in.

the design of the beach house responds to the programatic requirements of a coastal lifestyle, with a series of interlocking spaces that blur the boundaries between inside and outside. the building’s simple layout is organized in a single level, allowing diverse exterior spaces to develop around the main living volume. this volume comprises two wings – one containing two bedrooms, and the other the guest house – which meet in a generous living space that includes a bespoke kitchen, the dining room and the lounge area with a freestanding fireplace. two large cylindrical skylights above the kitchen counter and dining table bring natural light inside the house.
