BMW modifies two M series models through ronnie fieg’s lens of KITH
KITH founder ronnie fieg and BMW preserve the iconic image of the M3 + M4 while integrating subtle detailing to honor the streetwear brand.
BMW works together with KITH founder ronnie fieg in the design of two custom creations imagined to bridge the past and the present. the new york-based streetwear brand and the german auto manufacturer collaborate to unveil the ‘1989 BMW M3 E30 ronnie fieg edition’ along with the ‘2021 BMW M4 design study by KITH.’ the team began with ronnie’s M3 E30 which was sent to BMW in germany to be completely rebuilt using classic parts from the ground up. the collaboration is unveiled together with a short film, honoring the brand’s transdisciplinary ethos and focus on production quality, along with the designer’s roots in queens, new york.
although the two models are one-of-one and will not be for sale, followers are invited to stay tuned as there is more to come from KITH for BMW 2020.

working with KITH founder ronnie fieg, the design team at BMW preserves the iconic image of the M3 while incorporating subtle custom detailing to honor the streetwear brand. the original components were sourced from various BMW archives to ensure each element was 100% authentic to the 1989 design specifications to essentially create a brand new car. from there it was modified through the KITH lens, featuring custom KITH BMW roundel emblems on the hood, trunk, rims and steering wheel, KITH motorsport badge on the trunk, and embossed KITH monogram leather interior.

meanwhile, BMW’s 2021 M4 stands as the evolution of the classic M3 E30. to best express this lineage, the collaborative team at KITH and BMW apply the design details of the M3 E30 to the M4. the two cars share the exact iconic shade of cinnabar red — a paint color no longer offered by BMW. the other details were also translated, including the KITH motorsport badge on the trunk and the embossed KITH monogram leather interior complete with illuminated KITH headrest badges.

in a recent post on instagram, KITH’s ronnie fieg notes the origins of the BMW collaboration, commenting on the 1989 edition: ‘from 95-99 I had a poster of this exact car above my bed. I would literally dream of owning an E30. here is proof that dreaming big and working hard can make anything happen. we wanted to start telling our collaborative story with the foundation of this project. BMW classic rebuilt my 89 E30 M3 and I just got it back from germany this week.‘
