industrial designer noah wangerin has created a collection of three design plans responding to the 2020 global pandemic, including a filtered face shield, an exterior deck chair, and an air purifier. inspired by the maker movement response to COVID-19, this project explores design as an idea rather than a product. therefore, the plans are shared and made available to those interested in making their own.

‘protect your face’ by noah wangerin is a face shield with a cotton filter, mitigating transmission successfully. the designer has used a translucent material, allowing facial expressions to be visible through the mask. with a form deriving from a 16th-century plague doctor mask, the design seeks to be both functional and provocative.

‘sit outside’ is a deck chair that aims to be simple. it is made out of 5 pieces of standard lumber, cut at 2 different lengths. the vertical piece is cantilevered and unattached, allowing for easy disassembly.

‘breathe clean air’ is a cost-effective air purifier using ripstop nylon to join a fan with HVAC filter. a cinch strap attaches to multiple fans, and a mesh pocket makes changing filters easy.
