australian practice dane design australia has just completed a hill-top residence for a surf enthusiast on a steep site with undisturbed views of the wide ocean panorama less than 150 meters away. the unusual triangular site led to a circular plan that opens to the northerly sea side. the concentric masonry ringsthat make up the primary structure are plastered in concrete, also constituting the floor material, and left exposed on the interior to contrast the vertically-oriented traditional wood weatherboard panels. in the center of the plan, around which the vertical circulation is located, an open balcony is hugged by the rest of the home to protect from the strong south-westerly winds but also provides a centralized point of entry for the lower winter sun. the large pergola and overhanging elements of the construction shade the interior in the summer months. guest facilities are all located on the ground floor, with a game room, pool, office, laundry facilities and main entry are on the level above. the top storey contains the master bedroom, kitchen, living room and sitting room overlooking the landscape. the rooftop deck provides an outdoor leisure space with perhaps the best views.
