we continue our reportage of shipping containers and their use in architecture, where they have been increasingly applied in the use of hotel accommodations. following the previously covered bed and breakfast in majorca by espai fly, the ‘xiang xiang pray house’ located in the ruralvillage of nan dazhan cun and designed by chinese firm tonghe shanzhi landscape design provides another high-quality facility in a vastly different environment spanning 5000 m2 using similar building methods. consisting of a compilation of 35 individual shipping containers, the five star hotel benefits from the advantages of using the prefabricated modules, saving 60% of water and concrete in the construction, producing only 30% of the normal waste, and is painted in environmental water paint. the lodge contains 21 individual rooms with a choice of either a 20-foot or 40-foot container, along with a lobby, restaurant, event space and patio areas where tea ceremonies are held with live traditional chinese music.
