proyecto cafeína builds ‘casa cohuatichan’ on cliff edge, overlooking mexican cloud forest

‘Casa Cohuatichan’ is a vacation house nestled in the Huasteca sierra moutains with dramatic views

‘Casa Cohuatichan’ by Proyecto Cafeína is a vacation home located in the Huasteca Mexican Mountains. Attached to the edge of a cliff on a 100-hectare site, the dwelling frames impressive views of a waterfall and an exuberant cloud forest. ‘Unique sensations can be appreciated thanks to the natural wealth of the site,’ notes the studio.

highlighting outdoor living with light and clean aesthetics

‘Casa Cohuatichan’ presents itself as a multi-leveled construction that adapts to the mountainous terrain and responds to its tropical context. Indeed, Proyecto Cafeína (see more here) merged interior and exterior programs by fitting each floor with a large sliding curtain wall. This opens the house to the picturesque landscape while also linking the adjacent infinity pool to the living area on the first level and the master bedroom with an open hot tub, bathroom, and terrace on the second level.

The interiors are dominated by wood, ceramic and stone walls —  a selection that translates into a warm and harmonic, yet contemporary, atmosphere. Meanwhile, stone with wood and glass accents predominate the exteriors.

Overall, ‘the house’s aesthetics and materials were kept light and clean in contrast to the breathtaking surroundings in order to foster a unique experience of outdoor living while being under the comfort of a contemporary structure,’ concludes the team.
