Alcantara® is the first completely sustainable italian-made industrial product. as part of their sustainability project the company has attained ‘carbon neutral’ certification relative to the entire production process of the Alcantara® material. this means zero carbon dioxide emissions. the relevance of this result is further brought by thevoluntary nature of the entire operation. in fact, compensating for all carbon dioxide emissions is not a legal obligation but rather a specific company objective. this process involved reviewing the company business model in the context of sustainable development, with all departments committed to continuously reducing the company’s emissions.

once quantified, following a complex and comprehensive ‘life cycle’ evaluation process, emissionswere offset through the financing of 3 projects that, under the aegis of the UN, contribute to improving the conditions of the planet from an economic, social and environmental viewpoint: hydroelectric and wind power plants in  honduras, new zealand, and india – all dedicated to generate energy from renewable sources.

Alcantara® created Alcantara®lab, a laboratory of experiments. where the company collaborates with international car-makers, fashion-, industrial designers and interior decorators to understand the wide variety of needs and to find innovative solutions. during milan design week 2010, the new Alcantara® 2010 collection will be shown in the ‘Alcantara® design museum’ at superstudio più, in the tortona area of milan. the exhibition is curated by giulio cappellini, art director of Alcantara®.
