katamuku lamp

designer's own words:

For the LEXUS DESIGN AWARD 2012, we wanted to design a simple everyday object that shows the movement. Thus, we have designed the lamp KATAMUKU.

This lamp features a tilt-switch system : it is a switch whose position (open or closed) depends on its inclination. So, this lamp turns on and off depending on whether the one or other position. Off, it looks like a straight lamp with a circular lampshade. On, it leans to offer its light.

The used materials are greige or black fabric for the shell, light color wood for body and legs. One of the four legs is in lacquered steel and contains the tilt system. This steel leg is weighted, and helps the stability of the lamp in both positions.

This lamp may come in two forms and two colours : floor lamp and desk lamp, black and white.
