Jiaming Liu creates air humidifier using 3d-printing clay

Industrial designer Jiaming Liu uses clay to 3D-print a functional non-electric air humidifier. This sustainable household appliance consists of two parts, – the upper part absorbs and evaporates water, whereas the lower part stores up to 500 ml of water. The parts operate combined in a pair or individually depending on different space requirements. The structural utensil greatly improves water absorption efficiency and its parts can be 3D-printed all in one piece. The 3D-printing clay is made of recycled ceramic powder to shape curve formations.

recycling industrial clinker for modern household uses

Made out of recycled ceramic powder, in a ratio of 1:3, the humidifier’s materiality provide robustness to the structure, as well as bigger water intake. The project explores the uses of sustainable materials, such as recycled clinker, usually wasted from industrial processes. Adding to the cyclic revival of recycled products, the designer experiments on their possible applications for 3D printing clay.
