‘Gac barchetta’ from gac design
Design studio GAC Design recently unveiled their car concept GAC Barchetta, an electric sports car that redefines the meaning of minimalism, quite literally. The design team has opted for a roofless car design and has taken out the windshield. When the sports car is not in use, it almost resembles a lush maroon table with its flat and glistening surface.
The wheels often take the center stage with their hollowed inside and triangular steel bars anchored on the side. For the design team, GAC Barchetta is an innovative and avant-garde show car where they mixed inspiration from Italian car design and styling cues from their in-house concepts. GAC Barchetta is the first in the GAC Car Culture series of the design studio which recently opened its doors in the design district of Milan in Via Tortona.

What are the features of GAC Barchetta?
The design team writes on their site that the main concept of GAC Barchetta is to celebrate efficiency and simplicity. At first glance, the modern design testifies to their statement, which is divided into three parts. The chassis is flattened and contains compact batteries similar to the concept of a giant mobile phone. The body of the sports car comes through the use of mono-material aluminum which makes it lightweight, simple, and, as how the design team describes it, ‘timeless yet very distinctive.’
Inside GAC Barchetta sports car, minimalism continues with the feature of a compact drive-by-wire steering wheel and seats made from recycled plastic materials. The seats are suspended to a shell that weighs only three kilos, and the tension on the straps provides strength for support.

Although the design team just recently opened their studio in Milan, the company established its name in 2006 and has since then been creating automotive designs, both concept and production vehicles for GAC and AION brands.
‘Our global design network includes studios in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Los Angeles,’ the design team writes on its Youtube page. As the team continues to explore the boundaries of automotive design, the design cues that influence them lie in their desire to craft mobility experiences with human-centric values and innovation.
